Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What is Socialized Dog Boarding?

    • Hounds To Horses provided cage-free care for your pet IN OUR HOME while you're away. Pre-screened dogs come to stay and play, and are treated like family.

    • Dogs must be comfortable when left unattended in our home for short durations, be potty trained, and be a courteous guest in our home. Any dog who exhibits any behavior of concern will be removed from any group play and not allowed to mingle with the pack.

    • All dogs must be able to live peacefully with other dogs in a group environment.

  • Is Social Boarding At Hounds To Horses A Good Choice For All Dogs?

    • No. Dogs who are Extremely High Energy, are Extremely Anxious, tend to Bark or Whine Continually, or have No Training Boundaries may not be a good fit for our social boarding environment, as their needs are typically greater than we are prepared to handle. Although we have been working with dogs for 20+ years, we are NOT trainers or vets, but we'd be happy to refer you to either if needed.

  • Do You Offer Doggy Daycare?

    • Yes - For small dogs only. Our Zen Den Daycare is specifically for SMALL BREEDS with average to lower energy levels, who prefer a more "zen" atmosphere to hang our with other pet pals of similar size. Typically, this means dogs under 30-ish pounds.

  • Is There An Age Requirement?

    • Boarding: We do not take puppies for Overnight Boarding as their needs are often greater than we can accommodate. All dogs must be at least 1-year of age.

    • Daycare: We are happy to take small breed puppies for Daycare once they have had all shots, are potty trained, and can demonstrate some sort of name recall, but they must be small breed to attend. Additional puppy fee required under the age of 1 yr.

  • Must My Dog Be Fixed (Even If It Is Friendly)?

    • All dogs must be spayed or neutered. We don't mind which gender they "identify" with <giggle>. Often neutered male dogs may become defensive when around an unaltered "friendly" male dog.

  • What Is A New Dog Evaluation?

    • All new dogs must pass a Complimentary Evaluation PRIOR to being accepted. This must be scheduled well in advance of any boarding/daycare, & takes about 30-minutes.

  • How Do I Request A Reservation?

    • Go to the Reservations Page on our website. New clients can click on REGISTER HERE to create your new Online Pet Portal with us. You can create you Pet Profile and add all the information we'll need to care for your pet(s)!

    • Once registered, you can just click on the Existing Client LOG IN link from the reservation page on our website at anytime! Now all your Requests For Service and Payments can be made online! Want to change or cancel a booking? You can do this and much more directly in your new Online Pet Portal.

  • How Do I Pay?

    • All fees for service are taken in advance. New guests must first register via the RESERVATION page on our website to establish an account in our Online Booking System. Once your request has been confirmed with us, you will receive an email invoice for payment. You can pay via credit card right from your Account Summary screen. (a 3% Office Fee is included on all online transactions.)

  • What If I Need To Cancel My Service?

    • Cancellations (including early returns) made at least 72-hours (3 days) in advance, or 12 days during Peak Holidays will be honored. After that period, a reservation is non-refundable as we have often turned down business based on your booking.

  • Do My Dogs Need To Be Vaccinated To Attend?

    • All dogs must be in good health, and have proof of current VACCINATIONS including:

      • Rabies - 3 year

      • DAP or DHP (Distemper/Adeno or Hepatitis/Parvo) - Annual

      • Bordetella "Kennel Cough" (may be combined with Parainfluena) - Annual

      • Optional: Dog Flu - Annual

      • NOTICE: All shots must be administered a minimum of 1-week PRIOR to check in, and NOT the day before. For the safety of our other dog guests, a reservation will not be honored if vaccinations are administered LESS than 7-days prior to arrival.

  • Do You Require Flea Treatments?

    • YES! All dogs must be current on a flea program, if if they do not currently have fleas. We prefer to leave our "natural" terrain outside, and not hitching a ride inside our home on the dogs. All guests are checked for fleas and must be flea free. If necessary, we reserve the right to treat the pet for fleas at the owner's expense.

  • What Should I Bring For My Dog's Overnight Stay?

    • Food - Your dog's food, pre-bagged (helps keep them regular & avoids upset tummies)

    • Care Contract Form - Completed & Signed

    • Vaccination Record - A COPY (not original) of your pet's undated shots records

    • Parasite Free - Make sure their Flea & Tick Program is current

    • OPTIONAL: Blanket or pet bed. Make sure all items are labeled, and maybe expendable

  • What Time Can I Drop-Off OR Pick-Up My Dog?

    • Covid-19 Compliant: Due to the cage free environment, all arrivals/departures are by Appointment Only. Please see our Appointment Hours (not time ranges) listed below. We work 7 days a week and schedule our "lives" around your appointment times.

    • Excitement in a dog pack can trigger unwanted compulsive behavior such as anxiety or even biting. We minimize the excitement for all arrivals/departures by sticking with set appointment times, for the safety of all the dogs.

    • Curb Side Service - Please text us 15 minutes prior to your arrival so we can be ready to greet you.

    • Dogs must be wearing a collar and leash to enter our facility.

  • PLEASE DO NOT bring your dog's favorite toy, as some dogs become possessive of their items.

Our Premium Pet Insurance Has You Covered!

While staying with us, your pup is covered under our Premium Pet Insurance which covers any injury which may occur while here. It's a fact: Dogs play "Ruff"!  Our Premium Pet Insurance will allow you to rest assured that if by chance your dog incurs an injury during a stay here, a safeguard is in place to help with unforeseen costs*.

*If utilized, there is a $100 deductible that the pet owner would be responsible to pay.

Dogs play "RUFF"! Unfortunately, there is an inherent risk in allowing groups of dogs to interact with each other. While we do everything in our power to make sure all interactions are friendly and dogs do not injure themselves or their playmates, injuries are inevitable. Dogs play with their teeth and paws. They grab each other by the neck, paw each other in the face, and nibble on each other’s tails, among other things. In a group environment, cuts, scrapes, muscle strains and the occasional puncture are going to happen regardless of how well supervised the dogs are.

Additionally, the “natural terrain” of our outdoor play yards may lend itself to uninvited spiders, bees, snakes or other safety hazard. Fortunately, these situations occur on very rare occasions, and pet parents are notified immediately. Our Premium Pet Insurance is included with any dog in our care.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY DOG IS INJURED: Your dog is covered under our Pet Insurance Policy for the unlikely veterinary emergency. Coverage includes $10,000 in dog medical coverage of pets in our care. There is a $100 deductible that is the responsibility of you, the Pet Owner. How it works:

  • We will try to reach you, and if determined the best course of action is to take the dog to a vet, a claim will be filed with our insurance carrier. When picking up the dog from the vet, Hounds To Horses will pay the $100 deductible, and you will pay the balance of the vet bill. Our insurance will reimburse you the paid vet fees, less a $100 deductible (paid by us at time of service). Then $100 deductible will be paid to Hound To Horses by you, the Pet Owner.

  • If your vet agrees to wait for payment, the insurance carrier will pay the fees directly to the vet, less a $100 deductible (paid by Hounds To Horses at time of service). The $100 deductible will be paid to Hound To Horses by you, the Pet Owner.

  • Coverage does not include personal property damage, pre-existing conditions and old age, or congenital/hereditary conditions. In addition, and without limitation, the Insurance Policy does not cover Meet-N-Greets or any incidents arising from a Meet-N-Greet.

Our number one priority is the safety of your pups while they are with us. We take pride in our reputation for superior care of your pets while they are in our care!
